Ok, so I’m a proud Poppa. Where there’s one video of my ‘lil buddy there’s bound to be more. In this case it’s one of Madden taking some of his first steps. Problem for me is I just have to remember each time how to insert it into a post (wasn’t as smart as I thought and couldn’t remember).
This first video was actually sent to us over a week ago and it’s taken me this long to get it uploaded. I tried to do it from my phone, as I do with most stuff, but it wasn’t happening seamlessly so I moved to plan “B”, do it from my computer. What a concept !!
Since the first short video of him ‘stepping out’, as it were, we have made a trip to Kelowna to see the action for ourselves. Sure enough it wasn’t some kind of video trickery, he does take some halting steps on his own and then loses his focus and drops back down to a speedy crawl. He is not above standing alone, and even standing up in the middle of the floor, but the venturing forward is done only if you are not watching.
While he was babysitting us the other day we caught him in the act of perfecting his dance moves. The video is really cute (of course) and is more easily appreciated if you can get the sound up. He is purposely pressing the musical horn on his trike and then shaking his booty to the tune.
I just added a few more Old Family photos to the Genealogy folder in the Gallery. Some you may have seen before.
I have a number of photos I downloaded for the Federspiel family, among others, but have not posted those yet. Until I get some family trees put onto this site they likely won’t mean much to anyone. I still have to wrap my head around how we are all connected, whether Reeves, Novak, Federspiel, Lott, or whomever. It’s become a large family.
So look at your leisure, I’ll post more when they’re organized.
I also put up some photos from Madden’s 1st birthday.
The last couple days have been pretty busy and the buildup to the party and subsequent “Happy Birthday Madden” was not without some stress. I guess such is the often the case when you want something to go well and you hope your planning will be for naught. We are spending some time in Kelowna so we can help wherever we can.
The cake making and decorating went well with Ayron’s friend Ashley taking on the decorator role. The ever present “Thomas the Train” theme was the inspiration and she did an awesome job here. Watching her do her magic was enlightening, and it confirmed my thought that decorating is best left to those with steady hand and some kind of artistic ability, neither of which I have in great abundance.
I will post a few photos here for now and the majority will be put in the Gallery once I get home. I may attempt doing so from Kelowna but I’m thinking it may not go as well as hoped. Time will tell.
Here’s Madden after his first cupcake solo, no assistance required. There was some initial prompting needed to get him started but once he tasted the icing and cake he was smitten. I think he must’ve thought ‘I’ve died and gone to heaven’, or whatever a 1 year old thinks.
Of course the story wouldn’t be complete without a picture of me with my lil buddy.
I believe a good time was had by all and I do have pictures to prove it. As I said, all (or most) of the photos taken will be posted in the gallery.
Being that Madden’s ‘real’ birthday is Mar. 10th this party was set up as an occasion that I could attend. I feel blessed Ayron changed the date for me, at least in part, as I will be out of town on the actual day and wouldn’t be able to attend if it was on the weekend of the 10th. I will be coming back from Tuscon, a trip I’m taking with my Mom so she can take in a book signing at the University. I’m sure proud of her, 3 books under her belt and more to come.
Here’s one of her with Madden. Whenever she would hug him her hearing aid would ‘squeal’ and he would put his ear to hers and listen to the sound. Cute, of course.
As it turned out we ended up staying an extra day, leaving Sunday instead of Saturday. Such a hard life we have, sometimes I can hardly stand it.
What the extension did do was allow me to get some more photos of Madden, and he’s such a willing subject. It’s quite funny really, as soon as I bring my camera out now he often quickly crawls over to check it out. I think he’s particularly enamoured with the strap, the black and yellow bands catching his eye and drawing him near.
This visit I was fortunate enough to get some shots of him as he sat beside the patio doors, the glass passing the light across his face and giving the quality to the photo that I really like. This particular pose and lighting reminded me of one I took of my daughter when she was about the same age.
Now with this pic and all the others it’s my challenge to get them sorted, catalogued, and filed. Many will be posted to the gallery…. Soon, very soon.
